How to Shave Body Hair for Men: Shaving, Waxing, Epilators and Smooth Skin
By Aria Wilde · updated 2026-10-08 · 6 min read

Smooth skin is one of the most transforming feminization steps there is. Panties, stockings and dresses feel completely different against hairless legs, and you'll catch yourself running a hand over your calf just for the feeling. This guide covers how to shave body hair as a man properly, plus the longer-lasting methods, so you can choose what suits your skin, budget and privacy.
Choosing a method
| Method | Lasts | Pain | Best for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Trimming | Days (short stubble) | None | Intimate areas, first step for everything | Never fully smooth |
| Shaving | 1-3 days | None | Legs, chest, arms, quick results | Stubble, razor burn, ingrowns |
| Depilatory cream | 3-7 days | None to mild sting | Legs, arms, back | Chemical burns if left too long; patch test |
| Waxing | 3-6 weeks | Moderate | Legs, chest, back | Needs hair about 5 mm long; redness |
| Epilator | 3-6 weeks | Moderate at first | Legs, arms | Painful early sessions; ingrowns |
| Laser / IPL | Long-term reduction | Mild | Dark hair on lighter skin | Multiple sessions, varies by skin and hair colour |
Most beginners start with trimming plus shaving, then move to waxing or an epilator for legs once they know they want to stay smooth.
Step one for every method: trim

Shaving long body hair directly clogs the razor in seconds and pulls hairs painfully. Trim first.
- Use an electric body groomer or clipper with a guard, set to 1 to 3 mm.
- Trim dry, against the direction of growth for an even result.
- Do it in the shower or over a towel; the clean-up is bigger than you expect the first time.
For intimate areas, a body groomer with a skin guard is the safest tool. Pull skin gently taut and go slowly.
How to shave body hair: the full method
Prepare
- Shower for at least 5 minutes in warm water. Hair softens and the follicles open.
- Exfoliate gently with a mitt or scrub to lift flat-lying hairs and clear dead skin.
- Apply shaving gel or cream, not soap. Gel lets you see where you've been.
Shave
- Use a sharp, multi-blade razor, ideally a fresh one for a first full-body shave. Dull blades cause most cuts and razor burn.
- Shave with the grain first (the direction hair grows), in light strokes with no pressure.
- Rinse the blade after every one or two strokes.
- For extra smoothness, reapply gel and make a light pass across the grain. Only go against the grain on legs if your skin tolerates it.
- Pull skin taut over knees, ankles, elbows and anywhere bony or loose.
Area tips
- Legs: start at the ankles, work upward. Knees and the back of the ankle are where most nicks happen; bend the knee to stretch the skin.
- Chest and stomach: hair grows in swirls here, so check direction with your hand first and change stroke direction to match.
- Arms: short, light strokes; underarm hair grows in several directions, so shave in a few passes.
- Back: a long-handled back shaver, or cream, or ask a partner. Many people wax this area instead.
- Bottom and between the cheeks: use a hand mirror propped on the floor, a groomer with a guard for most of the area and a razor only on the smooth outer curves. Go slowly; this is not an area to rush.
- Feet and toes: a few strokes over the tops of the toes and feet finish the look, especially for sandals or sheer stockings.
How long it takes and how to plan the first session
A first full-body shave takes longer than most people expect: around 15 minutes of trimming plus 30 to 45 minutes of shaving for legs, chest, arms and intimate areas. Plan it for an evening when you have the bathroom to yourself and nowhere to be. Lay out a towel, the groomer, two fresh razors, gel, an exfoliating mitt and moisturiser before you start. Clean the drain and shower floor carefully afterwards; trimmed hair spreads everywhere.
After the first session, maintenance is much faster, roughly 10 to 15 minutes every few days.
- Intimate area: trim very short first, use a fresh blade, lots of gel, skin held taut, slow strokes with the grain only. Never rush. Scrotal skin is thin; many people prefer a groomer with a guard here rather than a blade.
Depilatory creams

Creams dissolve hair at the surface and give results that last slightly longer than shaving with no stubble edge.
- Patch test on a small area 24 hours before first use.
- Apply a thick, even layer to dry skin.
- Time it exactly to the instructions, usually 3 to 10 minutes. Never exceed the maximum time.
- Remove with the spatula, rinse with cool water, no soap for a few hours.
Use only products labelled for the body area you're treating, and don't use them on broken or freshly shaved skin. Mild tingling is normal; burning means remove it immediately and rinse.
Waxing and epilators: smoothness that lasts weeks
Both pull hair from the root, so regrowth is slower and often finer over time.
Waxing at home
- Hair needs to be about 5 mm long, roughly two weeks of growth after shaving.
- Pre-made wax strips are easiest for legs and chest; warm the strip between your hands, press firmly in the direction of growth, hold skin taut and pull back quickly, close and parallel to the skin.
- Professional waxing is worth considering for the back or intimate areas, at least the first time.
Epilators
- An epilator plucks many hairs at once. Use it on short hair (2 to 3 mm), ideally after a warm shower or on a wet-and-dry model in the bath.
- Move slowly against the grain at a 90-degree angle, without pressing.
- The first two sessions hurt most; by the third or fourth, regrowth is thinner and it's much easier.
Preventing ingrown hairs and razor bumps

Ingrown hairs are the main complaint when men start removing body hair, especially if the hair is coarse or curly.
- Exfoliate two or three times a week, starting about two days after hair removal.
- Always use a sharp blade and shave with the grain.
- Don't stretch skin too hard while shaving, so hairs aren't cut below the surface.
- Wear loose clothing for a day after waxing or epilating.
- Use a soothing product with salicylic or glycolic acid on bump-prone areas once the skin has calmed.
- Leave ingrowns alone; don't dig. A warm compress and gentle exfoliation usually release them within days.
Aftercare: keeping skin smooth and soft
- Rinse with cool water to close pores.
- Pat dry rather than rubbing.
- Apply a fragrance-free moisturiser or aloe gel. Skip alcohol-based products and perfume for 24 hours.
- Avoid hot baths, saunas and heavy sweating for a day after waxing or epilating.
- Moisturise daily. Smooth skin that's also soft is the real goal.
Itching as hair regrows is normal after shaving. Keeping the skin moisturised and maintaining smoothness every two or three days avoids the itchy stubble phase.
A maintenance schedule

- Shaving: legs and chest every 2 to 3 days, or before you dress up.
- Waxing or epilating: every 3 to 6 weeks, with exfoliation in between.
- Trimming intimate areas: weekly, if you prefer not to shave there.
If you live with others, sudden hairless legs can raise questions. Many people explain it as sport, cycling or swimming, or simply start with the chest and thighs, which clothes cover. For more on discretion, read how to keep crossdressing private.
Making it part of your feminine routine
In my sessions, shaving is never just grooming. It's a ritual: warm water, slow strokes, attention on every inch of skin becoming soft. That's why Sissy Hypnosis in the Shower exists, and why I suggest moisturising afterwards while listening to Sissy Hypnosis Anchored to Something Soft. Once your legs are smooth, the next step is wearing something that shows it off; see the panties for men guide and dressing feminine at home. For a smooth face too, the makeup guide starts with the closest possible shave.
Smooth skin is part of the appearance module in my Sissy Academy path, usually the step that makes everything else feel real.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best way for men to remove body hair?
For quick results, trim long hair first and then shave with a sharp razor and gel. For results lasting three to six weeks, waxing or an epilator is better once you know you want to stay smooth. Depilatory creams sit in between. Many people combine methods: wax legs, trim intimate areas, shave chest.
Should men trim before shaving body hair?
Yes. Long body hair clogs a razor almost immediately and gets pulled, causing irritation and cuts. Trim to 1 to 3 mm with an electric groomer first, then shower for several minutes to soften the hair before shaving with gel.
How do I stop ingrown hairs after shaving?
Shave with the grain using a sharp blade, avoid pulling skin too tight, exfoliate two or three times a week starting two days after hair removal, and moisturise daily. Loose clothing after waxing helps. If an ingrown appears, use a warm compress and gentle exfoliation instead of picking.
How long does body hair take to grow back?
After shaving, stubble appears in one to three days. Depilatory creams last about three to seven days. Waxing and epilating remove hair from the root, so smoothness usually lasts three to six weeks, and regrowth often becomes finer with regular sessions.
Is it safe to shave the pubic area?
Yes, with care. Trim very short first, use a fresh sharp blade and plenty of gel, hold skin taut and shave slowly with the grain only. Scrotal skin is thin and easily nicked, so many people use an electric groomer with a guard there instead of a blade.
