Pegging Awkward? 10 Ways to Break the Tension and Enjoy It
By Aria Wilde · updated 2026-10-18 · 4 min read

It is awkward the first time. Someone fumbles a buckle, the lube bottle squirts at the wrong angle, the toy slips and both of you laugh or freeze. All of that is normal, and awkwardness is not a sign that you shouldn't be doing it. It is a sign that you are doing something new. Here is how to turn it into part of the fun.
Why it feels awkward
- Neither person knows the choreography yet.
- Gear takes time to fit, and fumbling with straps breaks the mood.
- The receiver is vulnerable and the giver is unsure of her skill.
- Talking about it out loud feels odd when you are used to silence.
- Laughter is a nerve release, and the more serious the mood, the funnier a slip becomes.
Awkwardness is information: it shows where a little practice and preparation will help.
Ten ways to ease it

- Prepare the gear in advance. Adjust the harness before he is in the room. A rehearsal dry-run removes half the fumbling.
- Use humour on purpose. Agree beforehand that laughing is allowed. A quiet joke about the first awkward moment relieves pressure.
- Start in a familiar position. Begin with something he knows, such as lying on his back, and move to a new position later.
- Make a warm-up ritual. A shower together, a massage, five minutes of slow breathing. A repeated ritual signals the shift into the scene and calms nerves.
- Set the sound. Soft music or an audio masks silence and sets the pace. A track like sissy hypnosis in five minutes works well.
- Dim the lights, but not so much that you can't see the harness or the lube.
- Keep everything within reach: lube, towels, wipes, water and a bin. Stopping to search is the biggest mood killer.
- Agree on words. A signal for "pause", a signal for "more", a signal for "stop". Pegging communication and safewords lists good ones.
- Use a script. Having lines ready stops the silence. Examples below.
- Stay slow. Rushing creates mistakes. Slow movement looks confident even when you aren't.
Scripts for awkward moments
| Moment | What to say |
|---|---|
| The harness won't tighten | "Hold still, I'm fitting you into this properly." |
| The lube bottle squirts | "That was on purpose. Now you're mine to clean up." |
| The toy slips out | "Good. We start again, slower." |
| Silence feels heavy | "Tell me one thing you like right now." |
| One of you laughs | "Laugh. I like that you're comfortable." |
| He tenses up | "Breathe out. I'm not going anywhere." |
| You lose your place | "I'm taking my time. You wait." |
The idea is to put the dominant in charge of the narrative, so a slip becomes part of her performance instead of an interruption.
Giver's confidence

Many women feel unsure the first time. Confidence is mostly practice, and you can rehearse alone. Walk in the harness, test the weight and watch how your hips move. How to put on a strap-on harness and how to thrust with a strap-on both include exercises. Then speak, even if it is simple: a calm, low voice carries more authority than perfect technique.
Receiver's nerves
If you are the one being pegged, you can lower your own tension too. Tell her you are nervous, because she will adjust. Breathe slowly and take control of one thing, such as the pace of entry. Listen to a relaxing track beforehand, and keep your hands busy by holding a pillow or her wrist. Once the first minutes pass, the awkwardness usually fades.
Make mistakes part of the scene

A classic domme move is to treat any fumble as the sub's responsibility: "You made me wait, so now you'll count." It turns the error into play and gives you both something to do. If that doesn't suit you, aim for warm humour instead.
A ten-minute practice run
If the idea of the first scene makes your stomach flutter, rehearse the non-sexual parts. Put the harness on over clothes in the bedroom and walk around. Practise saying your lines to the mirror until the voice feels natural. Lay out the lube, towels and music and count how many steps you need to reach each one. Most of the awkward moments in a first session are logistical, and logistics can be solved in advance. Once the choreography is automatic, you can give your attention to him.
Debrief afterwards
Ten minutes of talk after the session changes how the next one feels. Ask what felt good, what felt awkward and what you each want to try differently. Pegging aftercare includes this step. Awkwardness shrinks quickly once you've talked about it, and a few sessions later you'll barely remember it.
When awkward means stop
Awkward and unsafe are different. Laughter, fumbling and silence are fine. Real fear, pain or a feeling that you should not continue means stop. Check in properly and take a break. My Sissy Academy path leans on that balance of play and care, and the beginner guide walks you through the first session.
Frequently asked questions
Is it normal for pegging to feel awkward?
Yes. New gear, vulnerability and unfamiliar roles make it awkward at first. Humour, practice and a clear routine make it much easier within a few sessions.
How do I stop laughing during pegging?
You may not need to. Laughter releases nerves. Agree beforehand that it is fine, take a breath and carry on. If it breaks the mood, pause and start again slowly.
What should I say during pegging?
Short, confident lines work best: "Breathe out", "Good", "Tell me what you feel". A calm voice matters more than clever words.
How can I feel more confident as the giver?
Practise with the harness alone, learn the thrust movement and prepare everything in advance. Confidence builds quickly with a few rehearsals and clear signals.
