Sissy: meaning
Also: sissy boy, sissy girl, sissified, sis

The sissy meaning in slang depends entirely on the speaker. On a playground it is a jab at a boy who cries or avoids a fight. In an old letter it can just mean sister. In kink, it is a word people choose for themselves: a person, usually a man, who gets pleasure from being made feminine and being put in a softer, submissive role at the same time.
Where the word comes from
Sissy started in the 1840s as a short, affectionate form of sister, the same way sis is used today. By the late 1800s it had flipped into an insult for boys who did not perform toughness: a boy who liked dolls, avoided sports or showed fear was a sissy. That insult carried a clear message, that softness and femininity were lesser. Some regions of the American South still use Sissy as a family nickname for a sister or aunt, which surprises people who only know the other meanings.
The insult sense

Used as a put-down, sissy polices boys and men. It is close to wimp or pansy and often carries homophobic undertones. If someone calls a coworker a sissy, they are not describing a kink, they are mocking him. That history is exactly why the word has such charge in the bedroom: it names the thing many men were taught to fear being.
The kink sense
In femdom and feminization play, a sissy is a submissive who wants two ingredients woven together:
- Feminization: panties, lingerie, makeup, a girly name, being called she or good girl.
- Submission: a dominant sets the rules, and following them is the point.
The contrast is the thrill. A man who runs a team at work kneels in lace at night, and the gap between the two lives is what makes it electric. The full picture, including fantasy versus identity, lives in my guide what is a sissy, and the process of becoming one has its own entry: sissification.
Sissy vs femboy vs trans woman

These are often confused online, so plainly:
| Word | What it describes |
|---|---|
| Sissy | A kink role combining feminization with submission |
| Femboy | A style or presentation: a man or masculine-leaning person who looks and dresses femininely, no power dynamic needed |
| Trans woman | A gender identity: a woman who was assigned male at birth |
A sissy can be straight, gay, bi, a femboy or none of those. Being a sissy in a scene says nothing fixed about gender identity. Some people do discover something deeper through feminization play and later explore it outside kink, and that is their own path to name. More on the overlap in femboy vs sissy.
How people use it (slang)
Online, sissy shows up as a self-label in bios, as a scene word from a dominant, and in compounds like sissy maid, sissy training and sissy hypnosis. Context tells you which sense you are reading. Between consenting adults in a scene, it is affectionate and teasing. Thrown at a stranger, it is still the old insult.
Sissy in audio and hypnosis
Most of my listeners meet the word through sissy hypnosis: a relaxed trance, suggestions about softness and obedience, and triggers that make the role easier to slip into. If the word stings a little when you hear it, that is common, and it often fades with repetition. Say Sissy Until It Stops Meaning Anything is built for exactly that. If you are unsure whether the label fits at all, start with Am I a Sissy or Just Curious and the sissy academy path.

Frequently asked questions
Is sissy an offensive word?
It can be. Used against someone who did not choose it, sissy is an insult that mocks softness and often carries homophobic undertones. Inside kink, people adopt it on purpose as a label for a role they enjoy. The difference is consent: the same word is a slur from a bully and a pet name from a chosen dominant.
Does being a sissy mean you are gay?
No. Sissy describes a kink role built on feminization and submission, not sexual orientation. Many sissies are straight men in relationships with women, others are gay or bisexual. Some sissy fantasies involve men, many do not. Orientation is about who you are attracted to; the sissy role is about how you like to be treated.
Is a sissy the same as a trans woman?
No. Being trans is a gender identity, and a trans woman is a woman. Sissy is an erotic role, usually played by someone who still identifies as a man outside the scene. Some people do explore their gender through feminization play, but enjoying the sissy role does not by itself mean someone is trans.
