A wife-led marriage, usually shortened to WLM, is a marriage where both partners have agreed that the wife is the leader. She makes final calls on the things they have chosen to put under her authority, and the husband supports, carries out and often enjoys that. It is a decision about how a household runs, not a statement about how strong either person is.
What wife-led marriage means
WLM is a specific case of FLR, the female-led relationship, for couples who are married and living as one household. Three ideas set it apart from an ordinary marriage:
- Authority is stated. She leads, and both know it, rather than leading informally while the husband pretends to.
- It is chosen. Nobody drifts into it. The couple talks about it, agrees terms and revisits them.
