Pegging Positions: 8 Positions Ranked for First-Timers and Experienced Couples
By Aria Wilde · updated 2026-10-18 · 6 min read

Position decides three things in pegging: who controls depth, how the toy meets the prostate, and how much of your weight you have to hold up. Change the position and the same toy feels like a different toy. This guide ranks eight positions from easiest to most demanding, gives pillow heights, and shows you how to pick based on what you want from the night.
How to choose a position
Ask two questions before you think about anything else.
- Who needs to be in control tonight? If the receiver is nervous, give him the controls. If he wants to be handled, give them to the giver.
- How much intensity do you want? Deep, fast and heavy is a different position from slow, close and sweet.
A rule I repeat in sessions: the first position should be the one where the receiver can stop everything with one small movement. Everything else is secondary.
The table first
| Position | Who controls depth | Intensity | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Spooning | Shared, small range | 2/10 | Very first time, nerves, tenderness |
| Receiver on top (cowgirl style) | Receiver | 3/10 | Learning his own limits |
| Lifted missionary | Mostly giver, receiver can pull back | 5/10 | Eye contact, prostate angle |
| Edge of the bed, receiver on back | Giver | 6/10 | Giver stands, easy stroke control |
| Child's pose, giver kneeling behind | Giver | 6/10 | Relaxed hips, long sessions |
| Doggy | Giver | 8/10 | Experienced receivers, deeper strokes |
| Face-down with pillow stack | Giver, receiver pins her in | 7/10 | Slow dominant sessions |
| Standing, bent over a surface | Giver | 8/10 | Short, intense, scene-style play |
1. Spooning: the gentlest start
Both lie on one side, she behind him, the strap-on at his lower back. The range of movement is tiny, which is the point. Gravity does no work, nobody supports weight, and the receiver can tuck his knees up to open the angle or straighten them to close it.
Setup: a pillow between his knees, her top arm around his chest. She can feel his breathing against her forearm, which is the best feedback you will get. Use this for the first two or three sessions, with the smallest toy.
2. Receiver on top

He sits or squats over her while she lies on her back, the toy held steady by the harness. He lowers himself at his own speed, stops when he wants and finds the angle by leaning forward or back.
Leaning slightly forward, with his hands on her thighs, usually points the toy toward the front wall where the prostate sits. This is also the best position to learn what depth feels good, because every inch is his decision. The drawback is thighs: squatting tires them after ten minutes, so he can sit fully back and rock instead.
3. Lifted missionary
He lies on his back, knees drawn up toward his chest or resting on her shoulders, a pillow or wedge under his hips. She kneels between his legs. It is the classic and for good reason: eye contact, easy kissing, and the toy meets the prostate side of the body without fuss.
Pillow heights that work:
- Flat, no pillow: angle points toward the tailbone. Avoid for a first time.
- One firm pillow (about 10 cm / 4 inches): a good default.
- Wedge or two pillows (15-20 cm / 6-8 inches): more tilt, more direct pressure. Go there once the lower setting is easy.
If you lift him too high the toy slants downward and the strokes get awkward. Adjust in two-centimetre steps, not five.
4. Edge of the bed

He lies on his back at the bed's edge, legs up, she stands on the floor. Standing frees her hips and the bed does the lifting, so her strokes can be longer and smoother. It is the easiest position for the giver to control rhythm, and for tall couples it often fixes height mismatches that make other positions clumsy.
Put a towel under him and a pillow under his hips. Her feet should be hip-width apart, knees soft, so she can thrust from the legs rather than the lower back.
5. Child's pose with the giver behind
He kneels with his forehead on the mattress, arms forward or folded under his head, hips slightly above his shoulders. This relaxes the glutes and pelvic floor better than most positions because there is nothing to hold up. It is a lovely position for slow, long sessions and for deep breathing. A pillow under his chest takes pressure off his shoulders.
6. Doggy

On hands and knees, giver behind. This is the position people picture, and it is the least beginner-friendly. The toy goes in at a steep angle, the giver has the controls, and the receiver cannot see her face. Gravity also pulls everything forward, which helps depth, and it gets deep fast.
Wait until you are comfortable in the lifted positions. Then try it with one hand of hers resting on his lower back so he can feel her presence, and agree a clear hand signal for slowing down. If he drops to his forearms and arches his back, the angle drops toward the prostate and gets easier.
7. Face-down with a pillow stack
He lies on his stomach, a firm stack under his hips, legs slightly apart. She kneels over his thighs or between his legs. The weight of her body and the bed hold him still, which many dominant-submissive couples love. The angle is shallow, so it suits slower strokes. Check his breathing; this position can feel hard to escape from, so agree on a spoken stop.
8. Standing, bent over
Receiver bent over a bed, couch arm or counter, giver behind. It is quick to set up, hard to hold for long, and best in short bursts. Use a sturdy surface at hip height. Do not choose it for a first time or for a first night with a new toy size.
Controlling depth in any position
You do not need a different toy for different depths. Use these:
- Hand guard: the giver wraps her hand around the base of the toy near his body as a stopper.
- Slow in, slow out: the receiver breathes out as she moves in.
- Short strokes first: about 2-3 cm (an inch) for the first minutes, then lengthen.
- Pause at every new depth. Count three breaths before going further.
Adapting positions to bodies
Height, flexibility and joints change the answer more than any chart.
- Tight hips or lower-back pain: child's pose or spooning, both of which take load off the spine. Avoid lifted missionary with knees pressed to the chest.
- Big height difference: edge of the bed fixes most mismatches, because you adjust the bed height with pillows or a step instead of bending your knees.
- Bad knees for the giver: receiver-on-top, or the edge of the bed standing.
- Larger bellies: a wedge helps more than a stack of pillows, since it keeps its shape. Side positions leave room.
- Short sessions or a time limit: lifted missionary, because it gets you to the right angle in under a minute.
Whatever you pick, change position when something is not working rather than pushing through. Three minutes of repositioning with a laugh beats ten minutes of strain, and the pause itself helps him relax.
Sample progression across weeks
- Sessions 1-2: spooning, small toy, 15 minutes.
- Sessions 3-4: receiver on top, same toy, 20 minutes.
- Sessions 5-6: lifted missionary with a pillow.
- After that: edge of the bed or child's pose, then try doggy.
Pair it with the preparation in pegging prep and relaxation and decide on stop words using pegging communication and safewords. If you are choosing gear, read how to choose a strap-on harness.
For the mental side, a calm hypnosis session beforehand helps the pelvic floor let go: try sissy hypnosis for letting go or, for a longer structured route, the Sissy Academy path.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best pegging position for beginners?
Spooning or receiver-on-top. In both, the receiver controls how deep and how fast, and he can stop with one movement. Lifted missionary with one firm pillow under the hips is the next step once those feel easy.
Which pegging position hits the prostate best?
Lifted missionary with a pillow or wedge under the hips, and receiver-on-top leaning slightly forward. Both point the toy toward the front wall of the rectum where the prostate sits. A gently curved toy helps.
How high should the pillow be?
Start with about 10 cm (4 inches) under the hips, firm enough not to compress. Move to 15-20 cm only when the lower height is easy. Adjust in small steps, because too much lift slants the toy downward.
Is doggy style good for pegging?
It is good for experienced receivers who want deeper, firmer strokes, but it is the least beginner-friendly. It gives the giver most of the control, so save it for when you have communication and signals worked out.
Can the receiver be in control during pegging?
Yes. Receiver-on-top and spooning put him in charge of depth and speed. A giver can also hand over control in lifted missionary by holding still while he moves against her.
