Ice Lock: meaning
Also: ice key, frozen key, ice-lock method, frozen key lock

The ice lock is the simplest "keyholder" a solo wearer can build. You lock the device, then freeze the key in a block of ice and put it out of reach. When the ice melts, the key is free and you can unlock. It turns time into the keyholder.
How it works
- Put the key into a small container, such as a plastic cup or silicone mould.
- Fill with water and freeze until solid.
- Lock the device, then place the block somewhere you can see but cannot cheat, for instance in the freezer or in a cool box.
- The key can be retrieved when enough ice melts, or earlier if you decide to run it under warm water.
The point is a built-in delay, and the mind game of watching ice slowly melt.
Timing

How long it takes depends on size and temperature.
| Setup | Approx. time to free the key |
|---|---|
| Small cup, in the freezer | frozen; stays until removed |
| Small cup, room temperature | one to three hours |
| Large block, room temperature | several hours up to a day |
| Large block, in a cooler with a little water | a day or more |
Keep a log of how long your own setup takes before relying on it for a long lock; kitchens and containers vary a lot.
Its limits
An ice lock is a challenge to your self-control, not a lock. You can run it under warm water, chip it, or put it in a microwave. That makes it good for short play, light teasing and practising patience, and poor for anything you really want to hold. For firmer methods see chastity without a keyholder and where to keep the chastity key.
Safety rules

- Never use ice for a long unattended lock. Needs change, and you should be able to free yourself in an emergency.
- Always keep a spare key that you can reach, such as a second key in a safe place.
- Watch for swelling. Arousal can make the area swell inside a cage while you wait. If you feel pain or see colour change, break the ice and remove the device.
- Don't add more than a few hours the first time.
Variations
Some use a sealed jar of ice in the fridge, others a timed lockbox once they graduate. A lockbox is a more reliable successor, and a keyholder who is a real person is the most reliable of all, although it changes the dynamic completely.
Listening while you wait
A frozen key and a slow afternoon pair nicely with audio. Sissy Hypnosis for Learning to Wait is built around patience, and Sissy Training: Do Nothing Until I Say turns the waiting into the exercise. For more ideas see chastity game ideas for couples and the chastity and denial path.
Examples in a sentence
- "I did an ice lock on Saturday and the key wasn't free until dinner."
- "The ice lock turned into a game of watching the ice melt."
- "Don't trust an ice lock for anything serious; you can always run it under warm water."
Frequently asked questions
How long does an ice lock take?
It depends on the size of the block and the room. A small cup melts in one to three hours at room temperature, while a large block or a cooler can last a day. Test your setup first and keep a spare key in case you need it.
Is an ice lock safe?
For short periods, yes, if you keep a spare key and watch for swelling, pain or colour change. Don't use it for long unattended locks, and break the ice if the device becomes uncomfortable. Treat it as a delay game, not a secure lock.
What is a better alternative to an ice lock?
A timed lockbox gives a more reliable delay, and a trusted keyholder gives real accountability. Both can be paired with a spare key held by someone else for emergencies. An ice lock is best for beginners and short experiments.
